Recognising Shingles Symptoms
Shingles, caused by the varicella-zoster virus, initially presents with distinctive symptoms:
Early Signs: You may experience tingling or pain in a specific area of your skin, often accompanied by a headache or feeling generally unwell.
Rash Development: Within a few days, a rash typically appears. It manifests as blotches on one side of your body, progressing into itchy blisters filled with fluid.
Location: The rash commonly appears on the chest and abdomen but can occur anywhere, including the face, eyes, and genitals.
Characteristics: The blisters ooze fluid and eventually dry out to form scabs.
Rash Appearance on Different Skin Tones
White Skin: Close-up of small red blisters oozing fluid, with surrounding pink skin.
Medium Brown Skin: Pink rash with small brown blisters on the lower back.
Dark Brown Skin: Grey blisters clustered on the chest.
Facial Rash: Red, swollen eyelid and surrounding rash affecting sight and facial movement.
